Good News Story: SEKG PCN
Health and Wellbeing Event Testimonial from Daniel Tang, Lead Clinical Pharmacist SEKG PCN
Daniel Tang, Lead Clinical Pharmacist SEKG PCN was invited to set up a health and wellbeing stall at the local Chinese Community Centre, aiming to promote key public health initiatives and engage with the community on important health topics.
“Recognising the opportunity to provide practical health interventions, I decided to offer blood pressure checks and atrial fibrillation screenings using a handheld AF detection device. Additionally, I took the opportunity to raise awareness about Pharmacy First services, as well as promote flu and shingles vaccinations.
To ensure an efficient workflow, I was supported by a non-clinical volunteer, who assisted in recording readings and flagging any out-of-range blood pressure results for my review. The BP and AF screenings quickly gained interest, and as the event progressed, we had a growing queue of attendees keen to participate.
Alongside my stall, the event featured various other health-focused stalls and speakers, covering topics such as diet and nutrition, mental health, and cancer screening awareness. This provided an excellent opportunity to network with key healthcare professionals and local organizations.
I engaged in meaningful discussions with the local MIND team regarding mental health initiatives, as well as with the Integrated Care Board GP Lead in Cancer. The ICB cancer team expressed a strong interest in collaborating on strategies to improve cancer screening awareness and uptake among the local Asian community.
This event not only allowed me to deliver direct patient care and health promotion, but also facilitated valuable cross-sector connections, reinforcing the importance of community engagement in improving public health outcomes.”
